New story arcs can make readers nervous. It’s quite possible that the story will be good but there is always a chance that the story could drag on too long. City Fall opens with a strong implication that there is a brooding gang war between the Foot and the Savate (as seen in the annual). What follows is an action packed, well written story brought to us by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, and new collaborator Bobby Curnow. The writing team of Eastman and Waltz has proved to be a successes as anyone who has been reading for the past two years can confirm. The real surprise is new artist Mateus Santolouco who truly brings his A-game! Combining the character designs of the Nickelodeon cartoon and a more realistic design, Santouloco creates a unique look for the Turtles. Alliances are formed, Casey is hurt (bad!), and Leo gets turtlenapped! If the rest of the arc can keep this kind of momentum going, City Fall may go down in history as an instant classic! I give this issue four shells out of four! Cowabunga!
