Toy Review: Star Trek Legacy Minimates Series 1 (Diamond Select)

STLegcy1Recently, Diamond Select decided to celebrate the legacy of Star Trek with a series of Minimates dedicated to the different eras of the franchise. And we were fortune enough to obtain the first series in this new wave of Star Trek Minimates .

Now, I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a Star Trek fan myself, but I love Minimates. I’ve been collecting these little guys for years now, and with every new series, I’m continually surprised on how much better they keep getting. And the Star Trek Legacy Minimates Series 1 is no exception.

There were 2 different versions of this series. One for the comic shops, and one that was for Toys R Us only. I’ll be taking a look at the comic shop version.

Included in this wave is:

  • Admiral Kirk & Khan (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
  • Captain Picard & Borg Queen (Star Trek: First Contact)
  • Captain Sisko & Jem Hadar (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
  • Captain Archer & Xindi (Star Trek: Enterprise)

The first thing that really jumped out at me is that Diamond Select is now including clear stands for each figure. I love this! Like any toy collector knows, sometimes your toys aren’t balanced correct or warp over age, and eventually fall down. With the stands, you just put the foot on the peg, and it’s perfectly balanced. And you can still pose them without having to worry that they’ll fall down.

Once again Diamond has outdone themselves with the level of detail in these 3″ figures. It’s just amazing. It’s the little touches on these figures that really make them stand out from other similar figures. Kirk comes with a communicator that’s about 1/2″ x 1/4″ (which I know I’ll lose). How cool is that? It’s stuff like that, that keeps making me want to buy Minimates.

Of course one of my favorites is the Captain Kirk Minimate because he comes with a second head. So now you can have him do the famous “KHAN!!!!!” scene from the film. Love it!!

So how does each 2 pack look like? Here’s some clickable thumbnails:

As I said in the beginning of this, I’m not a Star Trek fan, but I know damn well a great gift for a Trekkie when I see one. There no way any Star Trek fan can pass these up.

Diamond shows once again they are the masters of the mini-figures, and ST Legacy Series 1 just solidifies that fact.

Star Trek Legacy Minimates Series 1 is available in your local comic shop now.

And also look for the Toys R Us exclusive which includes:

  • Captain Kirk & Kahn (gold shirt) (Star Trek: The Original Series)
  • Captain Picard (captain’s jacket) & Hugh (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
  • Captain Sisko (vest) & Gul Dukat (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
  • Captain Janeway & Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)

You’re gonna want to buy both sets!!
