Ahhhh…the Joker.  The crown prince of crime.  The yin to Batman’s yang.  I gotta be honest with you, the Joker has never really be one of my favorite Batman villains.  A bit sacrilege to say, I realize.  That’s why I’ll probably be going into the witness protection program shortly after this article is published.

Don’t get me wrong, the Joker’s ok and all.  I mean he did kill Jason Todd (I think.  I mean, he did kill him pre52, at least.) and crippled Barbara Gordon, but…I don’t know.  He just looked ridiculous doing it. When I look back on older images of Joker, there’s something comical about them.  Any not in a scary kind of way either.  More of a “quaint” kinda way.  It really wasn’t until Ledger’s role as Joker, did I really respect what the character could be about.

That is, until Greg Capullo and Scott Snyder came along.  The two of them created a completely warped interpretation of an already disturbing character.  I don’t know who’s idea it was for the Joker to make a mask of his own face, but kudos, gentlemen.  Kudos, to you both.

So, when DC Collectible announced the Joker figure based on Capullo/Synder’s “Death of the Family” story line, I nearly peed myself.  Well, that’s not entirely true.  I made it to the bathroom in time.  It was a close call, but I made it.  Needless to say, I was pretty excited.

And true to the designs, it’s a pretty warped figure.  I’m not one to gush about sculpting or paint apps.  I leave that to the other guys.  This figure warrants a bit of gushing about the sculpt, though.  It’s flippin amazing.  The attention to detail is sick.  The tools, the buckle on his mask, the mask, itself?  His narly, narly teeth?  It’s all so…wonderful.

My only “complaint”?  Both his eyes are the same color.  One of the things that makes Capullo/Snyder’s Joker unsettling are his two different eye colors.  Look, it’s not that big of a deal, in the grand scheme of things, but what kind of critic would I be if I didn’t give DC Collectible something to reach for?  Something to strive for.  I’ll tell you what kind of critic I’d be…one that noboby knows.

Uh, wait…

The figure is a little light on accessories.  He comes with four tools that any decent maniacal mechanic would need.  No base, but he stands pretty well on his own.  At 25 bucks, the figure is definitely on the high end of the Toy Valuation Theorem.  But, it is DC Collectibles.  And they do some quality work.

My recommendation?  Why aren’t you opening him as we speak?
