Hero Initiative, the charitable organization dedicated to helping veteran comic creators in medical or financial need, is heading North for Fan Expo Canada August 28-31 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

August 28 marks Jack Kirby’s 97th birthday celebration and there’s no better way to celebrate than to Wake up and Draw! Many of your favorite artists will participate to commemorate the legendary Jack Kirby and support the non-profit in the name of the man who believed in giving back. Kaare Andrews, Mahmud Asrar, Greg Land, Ken Lashley, Richard Pace, Greg Pak, Ty Templeton, Jill Thompson, Lee Weeks, and Richard Zajac will all be drawing in honor of the King, so make sure you check them out! And make sure you read up on the full scoop on Jack Kirby’s birthday on the Hero Website!

And Hero’s creative Ambassadors around the con floor will be asking for donations as well, so make sure you visit them and do the right thing! Mahmud Asrar, Leonard Kirk, Greg Land, Ken Lashley, Francis Manapul, Greg Pak, Jill Thompson and Lee Weeks will all have Hero donation jars, so check them out!

About The Hero Initiative

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book artists and craftsmen in need. Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterday’s creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

Since its inception, The Hero Initiative has had the good fortune to grant over $700,000 to the comics veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today. For more information, visit www.HeroInitiative.org or call 626-676-6354.
