So Batgirl, I like Batgirl wether its Barbara, Cassandra or Stephanie Batgirl is pretty kickass.

Unfortunately, with so so many awesome Comics out there sacrifices have to be made and I have fell out of touch with the Batgirl and Birds of Prey lore (I have them just haven’t read them yet, I even have the BoP TV series still to watch lol). Imagine my delight to find Barbara not only fully mobile but also taking on the Batgirl mantle once again. Issue 1 touches on barbaras history and the events of the killing joke and a little intro of her fellow birds black canary and the huntress ( not a bird but its ok as she’s badass).

Issue 2 kicks off in style coming in slap bang in the middle of a police chase with Barbara and her dad Jim Gordon transporting bad guy Santo to a safe house with canary and huntress dealing with Santos gang who are hot on the trail. Not only does Batgirl have the stress of the chase to deal with she also has to try and reign in the Huntress’s killer tendencies and remind her no-one is to die. Although the Huntress agrees she still manages to push the limits of the constraint when she and Black Canary dispatch the gang in an action packed sequence involving bullets, crashes, and high pitched screams.

Once at the safehouse, the Birds get the info they need to try and find the elusive faux-rule that they are tracking but Jim pulls Batgirl aside and questions whether they’re up to it the challenge, BIG mistake! Batgirl storms out and the team return to their ‘hideout’ barbaras watchtower to track the offshore account but are interrupted by the sudden appearance of Batman (how DOES he do that) this is the cue for Canary and Huntress to make themselves scarce and while the bats ‘discuss’ the best way forward they bond on the roof in the form of an impromptu sparring session both physically and verbally.

‘Oracle’ appears long enough for Barbara to get a trace which leads to a server farm which the team storms in only to find it was a trap which they narrowly escape from and probably just served as a distraction because at the same moment a team of metahumans are preparing themselves to attack the safe house holding Santo which is where this issue ends! Oooh cliffhanger eek

I would like to see some of the previous Birds members make a reappearance in future issues but think the dynamic between these three works well with Canary like a rebellious teen Huntress just barely tolerating them  and Batgirl trying to keep them both reigned in and focused.
