Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

BBC AMERICA’s Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany earned her first Primetime Emmy Award® win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.  Her multi-character performance as fourteen different clones to date is also the first win for the channel’s original series.  The Emmy® rounds out a list of accolades for the star including two Critics’ Choice Awards, a Television Critics Association and Young Hollywood Award as well as Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild nominations. Orphan Black has also earned a Peabody Award.

Sarah Barnett, BBC AMERICA President, commented, “Tatiana Maslany is a phenomenal talent, we are so happy to see her get this amazing recognition from The Academy.  BBCA warmly salutes the entire brilliant team behind Orphan Black.   And we have no doubt the clone club – Orphan Black’s extraordinary fans – will be out in force celebrating their beloved show.”

Orphan Black is produced by Temple Street Productions, a division of Boat Rocker Studios, in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media’s SPACE. The original drama is executive produced by Ivan Schneeberg, David Fortier and Kerry Appleyard of Temple Street, and Graeme Manson and John Fawcett. Co-created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, with Manson also serving as writer and Fawcett as director, BBC AMERICA’s Orphan Black returns for its fifth and final season in Spring 2017. The series is distributed by BBC Worldwide and can be seen in more than 170 countries.

About Orphan Black

It all started on a train platform. A troubled woman, Beth Childs (Maslany), locked eyes with an unknown identical woman, Sarah Manning (Maslany), before jumping to her death. From that day on, they’ve been inextricably linked to a clone conspiracy that has come to rule Sarah’s life. Every twist and turn around the maze of this world has led to a new enemy, a new ally, a new clone and always, new questions. How many of us are out there? Who created us? Who is trying to kill us? Why are we sick and how do we survive?  The search for these answers have sent Sarah and her newly-found sisters Alison (Maslany), Cosima (Maslany) and Helena (Maslany) crashing headfirst into some of the most nefarious foes and life revelations they could’ve ever imagined.  Neutralizing enemies and gaining answers to some of these questions however hasn’t brought them any closer to solving the most important mystery of all – their survival. BBC AMERICA’s Orphan Black is available to stream on the BBC AMERICA app and BBCAmerica.com.
