Today we lost one of our greatest princesses

This past weekend, actress Carrie Fisher suffered a heart attack while on an airplane. 2016 has been hard on a lot of us with the amount of iconic people we’ve lost this year, so we obviously all thought Carrie would be the latest. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we heard she was in stable condition. Then today, the bad news came that Carrie passed away. I think we are all in shock because we thought she’d pull through. Unfortunately, her cardiac arrest occurred on an airplane, so it would’ve been difficult for her to have accessed necessary medical help. Reportedly, some members of the public did attempt to perform CPR. Often, people are worried when doing this as they think they could make the situation worse, however, people are covered by the Good Samaritan Law. This means that they do have some legal standing, even if they did make the situation worse. Unfortunately, none of these attempts were successful though. Thanks to the public and airplane staff for trying though.

Carrie was an amazing actress, but to most of us, she’ll always be Princess Leia. Her character wasn’t some helpless Disney princess. She was one who stood up to a Sith Lord, who at a whim could Force choke her or run her through with his lightsaber. But she never backed down. Not once in the face of certain doom.

I realize that I’m typecasting Carrie right now, but Leia is the way I’ll always remember her as. Of course, I also remember her as the jilted ex of “Joliet” Jake Blues, who was trying to kill him throughout the Blues Brothers film. There are others that love her as Meg Ryan’s friend in When Harry Met Sally.

Whatever role Carrie was in, she was amazing.

Thank you for everything, Carrie. You will be missed.
