DC Icons spotlights heroic family legacies.

For this wave of DC Icons, we get family members from both the Superman and Batman side. Supergirl, Nightwing, Robin and  Superboy.

First up are Robin and Superboy, or as they are known in their comic: Super Sons. I like the fact that they come together. Both figures are about 4 1/2″ tall, but Superboy is a little bit taller. This set is sculpted by Paul Harding and they are very good sculpts. For some reason, Superboy kind of looks likes to me Smallville actor Tom Welling. A lot of nice details here. I love the rips in Superboy’s jeans. It’s always details like that. He comes with 3 sets of different hands: Straight hand, grasping, and holding. They are very easy to change. Superboy also comes with a clear flight stand. Robin also comes with

Robin is just as impressive. The amount of details in the sculpt here are again impressive. To the folds in his costume and cape, to the laces in his boots. He also comes with 3 sets of different hands: Straight hand, grasping, and a set that are holding a bunch of Batarangs. For the grasping hands, Robin also comes with a staff. These two look great next to each other.

Supergirl is based on her Rebirth appearance. You can tell that this costume design is heavily influenced by the TV show and there’s nothing wrong with that. She is sculpted by Sam Greenwell and he did a great job here. A plus here is the skirt doesn’t hinder her movements at all. You can make her sit with no problem. There is an additional head to simulate Supergirl using heat vision. The head does look a little creepy if you don’t put in the heat vision blasts. Just these two holes in her eyes. But the blasts plug in very easily and stay without a problem. Supergirl also comes 2 extra sets of hands: Straight hands and grasping. And finally a flight stand.

Nightwing is in his iconic classic costume. On the box, it says he’s based on the Hush storyline. Sculptor Derek Miller streamlined the costume and features to make Nightwing look like Jim Lee’s art, but yet still keeping in the same style of the DC Icons line. Nightwing comes with 2 sets of hands: Grasping and open. The grasping hands hold Nightwing’s escrima stick without any problem. Nightwing also comes with a bat rope, or in this case night line. With the open hands, Nightwing can hold the rope and even swing on it.

These are a great addition to the DC Icons line. All the figures have multiple points of articulation and pose very nicely. Really loving them.

Nightwing, Supergirl, Superboy, and Robin hit local comic shops on September 13th and are well worth the purchase.

Many thanks to DC Collectibles for sending these for an advance look.
