Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and monsters is a perfect combination.

In season 5 of  Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there will be a four-part story arc with the Turtles becoming monster hunters, so makes a lot of sense for Playmates Toys to make figures based on it.

There are 6 in this series and they are at the same 5 inch as regular TMNT figures.

The figures are:

  • Monster Hunter Leo
  • Monster Hunter Raph
  • Mutant Mummy Leo
  • Werewolf Mikey
  • Frankendon
  • Vampire Raph

Monster Hunter Leo is my favorite of the series. He comes with a trenchcoat and a removable fedora. He also comes with his signature katanas with sheath. Leo also comes with these two large nasty looking knifes.

Monster Hunter Raph has more of a Victorian look to him. From the topcoat to the bowler hat on his head. Unfornatually Raph’s hat isn’t removable, but that’s OK. For a weapon, he comes with a large crossbow. Raph can hold the crossbow in either hand or in both hands.s

Mutant Mummy Leo wrappings are very impressive. Leo has a snake that wraps around his body. This is removable as well. And he comes with a large Egyptian looking sword.

Werewolf Mikey would make Michael Landon proud. OK, I make be too old if you don’t get the reference, but you’ll have to check out I Was A Teenage Werewolf. Mikey wearing a letterman’s jacket is such a nice homage. There’s an extra joint in his left foot to make him look like he ready to pounce. He comes with nunchucks but there are 2 bones here. And of course, Mikey being Mikey, he comes with a slice of pizza.

Frankendon looks very mindless here, which is different seeing how he’s the smart one of the group. There’s a bolt that right in the middle of his head. He has these big clunky boots that add a little hight to him. There are these vacuum tubes on the back of his shell. His staff more looks like a lightning rod. Just really nice touches.

Finally there Vampire Raph. An amazing job here because the cape is cloth and attached at the nice and elastics on the arms. Playmates really took into account that kids would be playing with theses and it does seem durable. Raph also comes with a bat that looks like it has the head of a turtle on it. As for weapons, Raph comes with one of his sais and a wooden stake.

This is an incredible series and amazing sculpts, but still there is so much playability with these figures.  A big thanks to Playmates Toys for allowing to take a look at these great TMNT figures!

The Monster + Mutants line will be available at all major retailers.
