In issue 21 of DC’s Batgirl; Birds of Prey, things get hot. Burnrate hot!!

Here’s the thing: jumping into Batgirl, Birds of Prey at issue 21 is a little tough. There is a LOT going on. If you’re like me, you’ll need to get your bearings. Lots of superheroines, lots of mom issues, and lots of bad guys. And bad girls. And Batgirl!

So, here’s the thing about the thing: The Calculator (bad guy) has broken Blackbird (bad) and Fenice (also bad) out of Arkham Asylum (bad place filled with bad people). Now, Gotham City is being held hostage as Calculator wants to know Oracle’s secret identity. The team will need to set a trap for Calculator, but here’s hoping their calculations are right, or it’s a tough time for Barbara Gordon!!

Story, with all its twists, turns, and torture, is by Shawna Benson and Julie Benson. Artwork is by Roge Antonio, with cover by Rachel Dodson and Terry Dodson. Color by Marcelo Maiolo.

If you are a regular reader of BBOP, you might find this issue compelling, as several characters confront their fears, and find moments of personal satisfaction. The drama is intense, with little or no synopsis for the occasional reader (like me). The artwork is fun and well composed. There are lots of great moments in this issue for fans of the Birds of Prey, and a few surprise guests too!!

DC Comics, Batgirl: Birds of Prey 21, $3.99 for 21 pages of content Rated Teen

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
