Old school meets modern-day Martial Arts

This show has an old school Kung Fu feel mixed with modern-day, and throw in a bit of  The Last Airbender and you got yourself in the middle of Wu Assassins. The show follows Kai Jin a young chef trying to grow a business for himself but finds him in a web of the triads. While protecting a waiter for the restaurant he currently worked for Kai finds himself at the wrong end of angry triads. As they pursue Kai he is approached by a woman who poses the power of the monks that she passes to a reluctant Kai. Kai is the last of the chosen ones to carry this power and must defeat the 5 elements controlled by the triads to protect the world from destruction.  The Power allows for Kai to hide his true identity to protect his family and friends from harm of the ones seeking to destroy the Assassin.

We were only able to watch the first 3 episodes but I have to tell you 10 minutes into episode one I was hooked. Not knowing much about the show prior to watching it I was expecting a homage to classic 70s 80s Kung Fu movies with bad dubbing. I was wrong. The mix of supernatural with modern-day Martial Arts worked well. The story so far has begun to play out with some unexpected twists along the way and made for binge-worthy viewing. The show stars Iko Uwais (Raid 2, The Raid Redemption). The fight scenes were pretty much flawless. My only complaint is there was a scene where Kai had to move a giant boulder and proceeded to destroy it the Special Effects were a bit weak on this scene for whatever reason but the rest of them were fine.

I could sit here telling you about the show and the story so far but I prefer to keep it spoiler-free for when they do release the entire season. I definitely recommend watching Wu Assassins when it releases on Netflix August 8th. Don’t let this one slip down your watch list.

Many thanks to Netflix for letting us check this out!
