If you’re of a ‘certain age’, or vintage, as we wine lovers like to call it, you have a soft spot for old Marvel pinups.

You know, those full-page drawings that appeared in Silver Age Marvel comics. Superheroes and villains. What fun it was to tear apart your old comics, and pin a page up to decorate your bedroom wall!

Craig Yoe, editor, has assembled a colourful collection of these long-lost images and reproduced them in Marvel Masterworks Pinups.

Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Jim Steranko, Don Heck, John Byrne, Barry Windsor-Smith, John Severin, Wally Wood, John Romita, and many more artists are represented here. The colouring is clear, bright and carefully executed. In some cases, the original artwork is reproduced on the page previous to the coloured pinup, making this more than just a reprint of old pinups. The original art images are a great value-add.

Yoe contributes a foreword, and others add comments near the artwork, making this a fun collectors item.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
