Batman Beyond? Beyond what? Let’s have a look at issue 42 of this title from DC.

Dan Jurgens is writing this futuristic tale, one that takes place ‘decades from now’. Ooookay. And Blight, the green skulled glowing figure who is NOT on a flying surfboard, rather on a flat, circular flying craft, is coming to battle Bruce Wayne. Batwoman’s identity has just been revealed, which shocks even those at Wayne Manor: who knew indeed?

Sean Chen and Sean Parsons, the two Seans, handle art. The figures and surroundings are solid if a bit cool to the touch. There’s no dust or dirt on the floor in this future, the lines are clean, the emotions are restrained even in times of trouble. And Blight is not just tormenting the Wayne Manor fern plants, he means business!

There are some wonderful battle action sequences here, and page after page of physical drama to take in. It’s perfect for a ‘pulse-quickener’ in these ‘beyond-belief’ days of enhanced leisure.

DC Batman Beyond #42, #3.99 for 22 pages of content. Teen

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
