If you’re into the wacky, you’ll love Glork Patrol On The Bad Planet, written and illustrated by James Kolchalka.

This Top Shelf/IDW book is 44 pages of ultra colourful fun for young readers. In this story, the Glorkian Warrior and Baby Gonk explore a new planet and make some new friends. But they’ll have to watch out for the most dangerous creature in the universe: a Baby Quackaboodle!

James Kolchalka gives us wonderfully exuberant expressions and phrases, and the rhythm of the dialogue is well done. Kolchalka uses simple word repetition and large lettering in his word balloons, making the reading something that little kids can join in on.

The colour palette in Glork Patrol meanders from mauves and greens to bright pink and yellow, so the panels remain consistent in look throughout.

IDW Top Shelf, Glork Patrol On The Bad Planet, $9.99 for 44 pages.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
