Saying goodbye to the comic legend Stan Lee.

When I first started reading comic in 1971, I really had no clue who Stan Lee was. Honestly, I really didn’t know a lot of the creators of comics back then.

It was the release of Origins Of Marvel Comics in 1974 where I was introduced to Stan Lee. The book kind of confused me at the time, as the comics they included had some cliffhangers. Hey, I was 4 and had the attention span of a gnat.

It was until I got more serious in the 80’s about comic collecting and that’s when I was truly introduced to Stan Lee. The man was bigger than life. To me, he was the embodiment of comics.

I did briefly get a chance to meet Stan at a con, thanks to my friend Spat. Spat was pretty much in charge, but I had to maintain my professionalism. It was a very quick hello, but still an honor. The man always had a smile on his face.

You’ll hear so many stories about Stan over these next couple of days of people who knew him better. But to me, he’ll always be a man I admire and one of my heroes.

Thank you, Stan Lee, for all the wonders and entertainment you gave us all.

Rest in peace.

When not swimming in geek culture, he can be seen corrupting..introducing his young son to comics, much to his wife's chagrin.
