‘The creature knows only rage and seeks only oblivion. Your mace may be the only object on Earth that can grant him peace.”

The Back Story:  The original Doctor Fate was Kent Nelson who discovered the tomb of the wizard Nabu and was trained by him in the ways of sorcery in order to fight crime and the forces of evil. He was a founding member of the Justice Society of America. Dr. Fate first appeared in More Fun Comics #55 (May 1940) created by Gardner Fox (writer) and Howard Sherman (artist). DC eventually replaced the existing Doctor Fate with a new character, Jared Stevens. Stevens was introduced in self titles series called Fate which was canceled 23 issues later in September of 1996.  Dr. Fate possesses a multitude of powers including superhuman strength, telekinesis, telepathy, pyrokinesis, lighting manipulation, teleportation allowing him to travel to multiple Earths.

What’s in the box: Ten interchangeable hands including book holding hands, Two head sculpts including one unhelmeted head, Helmet of Fate,  three magic projection effects, Book of Thoth, two wrist-mounted posing posts, display base, and light-up function.

The Verdict: This was an interesting character. Although I am not versed in the world of Dr. Fate I was intrigued with the figure and how well it was designed.  Although it reminds me a lot of Doctor Strange he does predate Strange by almost 20 years. The light-up effect was a nice add-on and worked well with the character I was diggin the blue glow radiating from the figure. The costume design was based off Egyptian clothing giving it that powers from the past feel as the character who found the tomb and was trained by the wizard Nabu. This was another great figure by Mezco and a much-needed variety of a not as popular character in the DC universe. I personally like this figure and would recommend him to anyone who loves the DC universe. This character has made several media appearances including and upcoming stint in the Black Adam movie. Grab this while you can as we know Mezco figures don’t hang around long.
