“Twas the night before Christmas..and this wanna be Santa Claus has a machine gun..”

As Kid Flash dashes diligently on patrol, he encounters Tar Pit, a classic rogue of the Flash. Meanwhile Barry and Iris on a date. What does Tar Pit want? Can Kid Flash hold his own against Tar Pit? Will Barry and Iris’s date run smoothly? Or does good ol Santa gotta step in to save the holidays?

A nice little one-shot issue that is a great little holiday special. Believe it or not, do not let the cover deceive you if you’re wondering whether or not Santa Claus is actually involved because well, he isn’t. But what this little one-shot issue does have is a nice touching story about Wally learning that not everything is black and white and there is always a reason as to why one turns to a life of crime beyond their own selfish motivations on the surface. Although Joshua Williamson is currently writing the Justice League vs Suicide Squad crossover, he manages to keep intact all of the personalities of the characters within this series. Aside from the holiday theme this issue centers around loved ones that you either spend time with or loved ones that you’ll do anything for to keep them safe. The conversations between Barry and Iris are pretty believable and sweet, and the conflict between Kid Flash and Tar Pit are reasonable.  It’s a touching one-shot that is fun and light.

Neil Google’s art helps to create energetic fun within the book, and Ivan Plascensia’s colors really create a kinetically energetic aesthetic to Google’s art in terms of Kid Flash’s scenes, while also delivering the right tone for the quieter scenes with Barry and Iris. I definitely suggest picking this little holiday issue up,  a 8 out of 10.
