Sony Square’s newest exhibit is all about Spider-Man

With Spider-Man: Homecoming being a Sony film, it only made sense for Sony Square in NYC to have an exhibit dedicated to Spider-Man.

I have to say, it’s a lot of fun. When you first walk in the door there’s a huge screen set up showing the trailer for the film, but after a while, it becomes a kind of first person ride with Spider-Man trying to catch the Vulture. The fans blowing air on you and the sound system truly adds to the experience. The graphic on it was impressive. I was told that there were first generation CGI effects that were used in the actual film.

When that was over I walked around a little and checked out some of the props they had on display. They had Spider-Man’s costume that Tony Stark made and his homemade costume. If you think these look impressive on screen, wait until you see them in person. Wow. One of the things that bugged me about the last two Spider-Man series was how Peter Parker went from homemade to something more elaborate. Having Stark make the suit really makes sense. And looking at the homemade suit, it was so influenced by the original Scarlet Spider design. Great Easter Egg there.

Other props included a knife that the Vulture uses, the machine used to rob ATM’s, Peter’s casual clothes, Peter’s backpack, his school’s shirt, and a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15. Really cool stuff.

There was also a VR experience. You put on the goggles and headphones. Then with the controllers, you try web bottles. They do recommend that you are at least about 12 to do the VR experience. It can be a little sensory overload for younger children.

And the best part had to be the building wall. You lie down on it and do your best wall crawling pose. The Sony folks there are nice enough to even take your picture for you. All the staff that working there are extremely helpful and also comic knowledgable. I was impress with that!

Now the best part of this entire experience is the price: FREE! You heard me: FREE. How can you go wrong with that?

Whatever you do you have to check it out but do not wait.

“The Spider-Man: Homecoming” experience is on display from June 26August 6.

Sony Square NYC is located at 25 Madison Avenue and is open to the public Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m.7 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.  For more information, visit www.sony.com/square-nyc/.
