Get ready for a rocking’ socking’ read in BOOM’s Rocko’s Modern Life #1, from Nickelodeon!

Everyone’s favorite wallaby has his own comic book now, based on the popular Nickelodeon animated TV Show.

This one’s written by Ryan Ferrier (Regular Show, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)  and illustrated by Ian McGinty (Adventure Time, Bravest Warriors). Colors are by Fred C. Stresing.

For those (like me) who are not familiar with Rocko’s Modern Life, here’s the basics: It’s animated funny animals, folks. in this comic, we have characters from O-Town: Rocko, Spunky, Heffer, the BigHeads, and so on.

The first issue is a traumatic one for Rocko: his job goes south and he’s unemployed at a bad time: his rent is due, and there’s not much work to be had in O-Town. Enter a possible solution: get a roommate to split the rent! And hey, here’s an interview scheduled for tomorrow that sounds promising! Maybe things are looking up!

The writing and art are frenetic: loads of exaggeration, exclamation, and acclamation! You’ll see tonsils when someone yells, and lots of wide eyes bulging with energy! Frantic action and lots and lots of amped-up drama!!!

The backup story in the first issue is “Dentist with Mr. BigHead”, with art by RC Green. More wacky animal action, lots of over the top exaggeration, and way-out gags.

Lots of wacky fun in this comic!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
