From Dynamite comes Volume 2 of Red Sonja: Worlds Away.

The volume consists of two stories: first is Back Roads, written by Amy Chu, with art by Carlos Gomez, colours by Mohan. This was first published as Red Sonja Volume 4, issues 7-11.

We join Red Sonja and her gal pals in the present day US. They’re doing the ‘cross America” thing, as Red Sonja looks for a way back home. In the meantime, though, there are seedy motels, motorbikes, beer, biker guys, more beer, and lots and lots of mayhem. Meanwhile, in the old world, Meru has been gutted. Anyway, back to Las Vegas, where Red Sonja is fighting the Las Aranhas bike gang and drug cartel. Enter some powerful magic, and were whisked away, as the adventure continues in Hyrkania!

The next story is Long Walk to Oblivion, written by Erik Burnham, illustrated by Tom Mandrake and coloured by Mohan.

In Hyrkania, Red Sonja wants to drink beer and be left alone at the Inn. Okay, she’s red-haired, attractive and wearing bikini chain mail, and doesn’t seem to be married. What’s a fella to do? Soon enough, things do get serious for Red Sonja, with wicked witchcraft being awoke in Shamballah. There are flying dragons, flagons of ale, flags, and flagging spirits, but there is lots of Sonja action here for her fans.

There are also plenty of variant covers for the various issues reprinted here, and fan drawings as well. Good value for the price!

Dynamite, Red Sonja Worlds Away Volume 2, $19.99 for 180 pages of content. Teen +

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
