With Infidel 4, the scene is set for the upcoming final issue of this compelling miniseries from Image Comics.
Writer Pornsak Pichetshote, artist Aaron Campbell and colorist/editor José Villarrubia step up the tension in the story of life in the ‘apartment building from hell’.
“Hey, I’m new to this comic: What’s up?” Well, Aisha and her daughter are in hospital in critical condition, following an attack by dark spirits. Her mother-in-law is dead, and her fiancé Tom is grieving. But Aisha has a few friends around, and they are looking into the checkered past of the apartment building where they live. A former resident throws doubt on whether the building is possessed. But: we readers KNOW the building is possessed, and positively dangerous to enter. So, who will wander into its clutches next?
This comic is SO gripping. It has a sense of inevitability, dread and foreboding. You want to reach into the book, and yell at the characters: “Don’t go in the house”!!
Artwork is terrific; Campbell portrays faces SO well. It looks to me like he is rendering with ink and charcoal, giving the book a ‘sooty’ and gritty look that enhances the realism and adds appropriate texture to the art. The coloring is effective too. Understated, and subtle, with lots of greys and earth tones. Oh, except when something supernatural happens, then it’s “hit the paintbox” time!
Highly recommended!
