Valiant’s The Forgotten Queen issue 2 brings us more of this Queen, this forgotten Queen.

The War Monger had the power to enflame warriors to attack each other. Then she fell for the Mongol’s most feared warrior. And today, Dr. Sarnai Oyuunchimeg is investigating an undersea exploration which ended in tragedy. But the good Doctor seems to care more about the armor that was uncovered than the dead.

Very mysterious, and for the reader, heavy going. You need to pay attention when reading this one. It needs a bit of explanation. The scenes written by Tini Howard are strong enough, the individual plot strands are interesting and original. Lots of blood, lots of lust. And dust. The art by Amilcar Pinna with colour by Ulises Arreola is capably handled, bright and powerful.

But I keep flipping back and forth as I read. Not sure where I am going or where I have just been. I’m a bit lost in the desert. Have I forgotten the Queen?

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
