Alienated #2, from the same creative team as the first issue, continues along the same vibrant and surreal path. But more drama is emerging.

Simon Spurrier and Chris Wildgoose’s new title from BOOM Studios is the story of three teens who encounter strange happenings in the woods. Seen on the cover, a strange alien being is now in the picture! In this issue, their lives are even closer linked together, as a school bully disappears in the same woods.

Spurrier (Books of Magic, Age of X, House of Whispers) and Wildgoose (Porcelain, Batgirl, Gotham Academy) bring elements forward from the first issue and breathe life into them in a captivating way. The sharing of thoughts among the school-bound teens, the dilemma of shared experiences from a number of different perspectives… there is a lot ot enjoy here, without me giving away any surprises.

The writing is crisp, the drawings are dramatic and have the right amount of exaggeration to bring drama without distraction.

André May’s colour work continues to be intense and mood-enhancing. Just the visual ‘drugs’ we need to make comic reading a pleasure!

BOOM Alienated #2, $3.99 for 24 pages of content. Assume Teen rating

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
