Callie and Christopher are lycanthropes (people who turn into wolves). In this current-day scenario, nations around the world have been testing lycanthropes, and are both afraid and fascinated by them.

Christopher, a former soldier diagnosed with PTSD, has been called to speak before the UN. But all is not what it seems. Callie and Christoper must learn to control their “wolf-spirit” and stop the US army from weaponizing their kind!

Woodland Creatures, an independently published series, is currently approaching the release of Volume 2. In the meantime Volume 1 is available now and is a fantastically written and illustrated horror/suspense title. Created by Cristina Roswell, based on her original story, Woodland Creatures: Wild Souls brings us into the mysterious world of human/wolf fantasy fiction. Thickly embued with drama at every turn, the first volume is also astonishingly well illustrated. The black and white line drawings by Tomás Aira (Garth Ennis’ War Stories, Dark Horse’s The Whispering Dark, etc) are expressive and moody. The figures and faces hold attitude and gesture, the buildings and landscapes feel real. There is a somber, film noir look to the pages, with beautiful brush and pen work. The black and white areas of the page balance each other exquisitely, a sure sign of an artist who loves his work and is expert at it!

Cristina is a published Urban Fantasy and Historical-Paranormal fiction author from Spain (currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland). So far she’s released 4 novels (all of them in Spanish) plus volume 1 of the Woodland Creatures graphic novel series (both in Spanish and English) based on one of her paperbacks. Her book version of Woodland Creatures is scripted for comic book format by award-winning author Rafael Ruiz-Davila, with lettering by script-writer and colorist Gonzalo Duarte.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently underway for volume 2 (out of 3): a perfect bound, 55+ pages comic book.

Volume 1 is available from Kickstarter and digitally via Comixology:

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
