As Static and his friends liberate the other imprisoned Bang Babies while simultaneously facing off against Hotstreak and his crew, they’re surrounded by the Blacksite task force.

With no way to get out, Static will have to assemble everyone, even Hotstreak to work together and escape the government facility. Can Static and Hotstreak put aside their differences to liberate all of the imprisoned? And what looms in the shadows for Static and his friends?

Writing: Ayala ramps everything up to 9000 in this issue as Static, his allies, and all of the other Bang Babies battle their way out of the facility. Ayala does a great job at humanizing characters and displaying the complexities of the opposite sides, showcasing that despite all the bombastic action, there is more to these characters than just their powers and the circumstances that push them to be who they are. Despite all of the action, the story itself within this issue is a fantastic conclusion to season one of this series. The dialogue between characters is written beautifully, nailing the slang, dialect, and voice of today’s youth and modern culture. Ayala nails all of the characters’ voices and personalities that are very much like their previous media counterparts while still retaining their own unique voice within this iteration of this series. There are some great moments that foreshadow what is to come down the pipeline and it’s something that readers will genuinely get excited about.

Nikolas Draper-Ivey has evolved artistically throughout this entire run of Static: Season One. Each effort seen within each issue just glows with radiance, and this particular issue is a high note that shows just how comfortable Ivey has become within this run. Much like the previous issue, Ivey is in his element, giving readers highly stylized layouts, color rendering, cinematic fight choreography across the pages, and visually stunning action that deserves high praise for a title such as this. There are some great moments that are gonna be regarded as iconic amongst fandom for years to come if it hasn’t already been considered that.

The art is just a sight to behold that will have everyone from the western and eastern communities of comic/manga-dom impressed and excited to see. Andsworld Design does a solid job with complimenting the book with the lettering, providing the right kind of voice, tone, and placement throughout the book that is fitting to everything that occurs within it. This issue is a solid conclusion to Static: Season One. Ayala, Ivey, and Andsworld Design have redefined Static Shock for a whole new generation, and whatever comes next is something that readers will be yearning for months to come. Add this to your pull list for new comic book day.
