All’s I can say is God (or whatever deity you choose to believe in) bless Marvel Studios.
Your friendly neighborhood jman was fortunate enough to get a hold of an advance screening of Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe. The show turned out to be a nice, hour long history lesson of Marvel Studios, filled with interviews and behind the scenes action.
The jaded among us (and you know who you are), will just see this show as an hour long commercial. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. But, if you’re a card carrying fanboy, you’re still (at the very least) obligated to watch the show.
No matter your preconceptions, it’s still worth your time.
The show features assorted interviews with Marvel Studio executives Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Joe Quesada (to name a few). Starting with the development and production of 2008’s Iron Man (Yea… it’s only been 6 years since the first Iron Man movie came out), the show delves into Marvel Studios short history of building a shared “cinematic” universe.
It’s easy to forget that back then, Marvel Studios was just a little, independent studio. Yea…we all expect big movies from them now, especially being owned by Disney. But, back in 2005, when Marvel Studio scrapped all previous productions of Iron Man, to go it on their own, that was a whole different story. With the rights to their “big” heroes already sold off to the “big”players, Marvel Studios was taking a huge gamble on Iron Man, in too many ways to mention here.
Although I’m not a regular watcher of Agents of Shield, I have seen all the movies (Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, etc) and One Shots (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer, Agent Carter, All Hail the King, etc) featured in the telecast, over the years. And, yea, I still got goose bumps watching the show. What can I say? Fanboy til the end…
Oh, and just like the Marvel movies, you definitely want to stay tuned until the end…
Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe airs Tuesday, March 18 at 8 on ABC.
