Features Legendary Comic Creators, Actors, Costume Contest, and the original Batcopter
New Jersey’s largest comic convention, the EAST COAST COMICON, returns to the Meadowlands Exposition Center on April 16-17 with an array of comic creators, vendors, and multi-media talent.
This year, the event is proud to announce the appearance of television and movie actors Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek’s Lieutenant Uhura), Jeremy Bulloch (Star Wars’ Boba Fett), Sam J. Jones (Flash Gordon, Ted), and Steve Cardenas (Red Power Ranger). All are available for photos and autographs (prices vary).
More than seventy (70) comic artists and writers will be on hand including multi- award winning writer Mark Waid, whose acclaimed run on The Flash is largely the basis for the current CW hit television program. Waid’s other credits include Captain America, Daredevil, Hulk, Kingdom Come and Superman. Other comic pros include Mike Zeck (Punisher), Michael Golden (Micronauts), Neal Adams (Batman), Simon Bisley (Lobo), Ken Lashley (X-Men), and Peter Bagge (Hate, New York Times best-seller Woman Rebel). Animation legends Bob Camp and Bill Wray, who gained acclaim with Ren & Stimpy, will be on hand, along with fellow animation director J.J. Sedelmaier of Saturday Night Live fame.
There’s comics fun for all ages, including a Kids Love Comics area that offers activities all day,including how to make comics, drawing lessons, and how to be a Jedi. More than a dozen professional comic artists will be there to teach and sell their books. The original Batcopter will be on display, along with a gallery of incredible TV and movie vehicles, including the 1966 Batmobile and Batcycle, the 1989 Batmobile, the Monkees Mobile, the Munsters Koach, and the Green Hornet Black Beauty. Fans can pose for pictures with any of them (prices vary). Over 200 vendors will be offering a wide assortment from super-rare to dollar box comics. And on Sunday afternoon, super-heroes will come to life for the famed East Coast Comicon Cosplay Contest. Top prize will be $1,000 for the best costume, and many other prizes will be awarded. The contest begins at 4 pm.
Last year’s convention brought close to 10,000 visitors to the Meadowlands. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid any sell-outs.
