By now we have all seen the posters for Logan and I think we all want it to mean the same thing, Old Man Logan!! Now if you haven’t read Old Man Logan then do so now. Seriously go get it. GO!
Right as a recap the comic is set in a future where the bad guys won, they teamed up and kicked ass. Logan was tricked into doing something terrible (not gonna spoil too much) and vowed never to fight again. Now he tends a farm with his family on land owned by the Hulk and his inbred clan. He doesn’t have the rent money and has to take up a transportation offer a blind Hawkeye brings to him. They travel through the different ‘Bad guy’ states before meeting and having a showdown with Red Skull. Logan finally returns to his family only to find something that leads to him taking on the entire Hulk family! It’s an amazing read and something I was excited about when I heard it was possibly the next film. That was until I thought about it.
Is this film going to be Old Man Logan or just Logan as an old man? It could just be another Marvel film where they think ooh that’s an iconic arc why don’t we use that name and basic idea but change it to fit our idea. There are loads of parts that I just can’t see happening in the MCU studio permissions aside they can’t have Hulk being a cannibalistic baddie AND an avenger, same goes for hawkeye to a certain extent, it all has to fit into the current and future MCU and the characters involved can’t have their image damaged or sullied just because the story is brilliant
The child’s hand is pretty much confirmed as X-23 so this could be the film where the Wolverine mantle passes on from Logan to X-23. I think an epic way to do this would be to combine the Old Man Logan ending with the death of wolverine ending. Instead of rescuing a Banner baby like in Old Man Logan he could rescue X-23 but end up in the iconic pose encased in adamantium leading to X-23 taking over the franchise, but hey that’s just a thought.
