Lightning strikes again with this repro Mego.

I had the Thor Mego when I was kid so of course, this set had massive appeal to me.

Like all the sets from Diamond Select, it comes with one figure, three outfits, three heads, multiple hands, and various other accessories. The outfits are a repro of the original Mego, one that’s updated with today’s material, and a secret identity.

First up is the repro Thor. It comes in a repro packaging that looks amazing again.

This repro is almost exactly like the one I had growing up. He comes with the flocked hair, little hammer, boots, and armbands. The difference here is the helmet. In the original Megos, Thor had a peg in the helmet and a hole in his head to hold it in place. In this repro, there is no peg in the helmet, so it just kind of sits on his head. Personally, I felt it was more secure with the peg, but I’ve read stories of the peg breaking. I never had an issue, but that’s just me. Other than this slight design flaw, it’s a pretty accurate repro. Brings bad some good memories.

Then there’s the modern costume. It’s based on artist Olivier Coipel design from his and J. Michael Straczynski run on Thor. The design is extremely impressive. It almost looks like figure gained muscles when you put on the modern costume. The head this time has molded hair, not flocked like the original. And of course a better-looking hammer and helmet. I do have to say you need to be careful when you put on this modern outfit. It’s really not made of spandex so there isn’t much give, but you can get it on, but be gentle. Also because of the modeled hair, it does make it a little difficult to get the head on, but once it’s one it looks amazing.

Finally, there’s the alter ego costume. You can change Thor into Doctor Don Blake. He comes with scrubs, surgical mask, surgical cap, lab coat, stethoscope, and of course his wooden cane. The only complaint I have here is the surgical cap, It’s a little tight and seeing the size, it’s not that easy to get on his head. Plus it does look a little goofy when it is on. So it’s best to just leave it off. Other than that, I like it.

The set again comes with a booklet that talks about the history of the Thor Mego, Thor action figure, and other Thor facts.

Again, another amazing set from Diamond Select and EMCE.
