DC’s The Terrifics number 1 introduces us to a lot of characters. The story, however, is more of a sidebar.

Mr. Terrific, (Michael Holt) drops in to see Mr. Stagg. Mister Stagg has bought out Terrific’s company and is messing around with one of his projects. One that he should have left well enough alone. But no, Stagg wanted to mess around anyway, and opened a door to the Dark Multiverse! This is a bad bad thing! Enter Metamorpho and Plastic Man, trying to seal up the portal to the Dark Multiverse, which by now we all realize IS definitely bad!

Written by Jeff Lemire, The Terrifics #1 is drawn by Ivan Reis, inked by Joe Prado, and colored by Marcelo Maiolo. There’s lots of splash, visual drama, and excitement in this tale. But as far as a plot, it is instead more like a series of character introductions so far. Maybe the superhero team will start to click together in the next issue, and we’ll get a sense of what Lemire has in store for us!

DC The Terrifics #1, $2.99 (!!) for 21 pages of content. T for Teen.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
