Pearl, the story of the young tattooed woman, proceeds toward Tokyo in issue #8. It’s time for a meeting of minds. The backstory gives us context, leading up to her arrival.

Pearl is a fun and atmospheric exploration into Yakuza organized crime. It’s above average in plot and dialogue, thanks to Brian Michael Bendis’ scripting. Michael Gaydos provides stunning artwork, heavily referenced from photos, but ultimately remixed and sampled and altered.

It’s an altered state adventure across the globe. Will Pearl emerge victorious from her current situation, or be compelled to toe the line, following the edicts of the assassins and assorted criminals that are getting under her skin?

DC, Pearl #8, $3.99 for 24 pages. Rated Mature

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
