The long-standing, high flying, Defender comes home!
When Nighthawk first appeared in Avengers #69 (1969) first appeared, he was essentially a Batman homage. At the time, writer Roy Thomas and artist Sal Buscema wanted to have a battle between the Avengers and the Justice League. Since DC Comics owned the Justice League, they came up with a team of villains that were based on Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and Batman, called the Sinister Squadron. Afterward, Nighthawk became a hero and appeared as a guest star in several books until he became the de-facto leader of the Defenders. Now Hasbro has given us a 6-inch version of this great character.
Nighthawk design is based on his second, iconic costume. It really looks nice. The yellow and red really pop on the dark blue body suit. The sculpt is really nice. Standard buck Hasbro used, but the face sculpt is what’s really cool. Hasbro did an awesome job with the little wings under his eyes.
Hasbro has included the talons that Nighthawk sometimes uses on his fists. They look like mini-versions of Wolverine’s claws. You really don’t see the talons that much in the comics these days, but I really like it on this figure.
The cape/wings make the figure a little top heavy. But this figure is balanced, especially when you consider it is a Marvel Legend with all the standard points of articulation.
Nighthawk comes with the right arm and weapon of Armored Thanos from Avengers: Endgame for a Build-A-Figure piece.
Nighthawk has been a character I’ve been waiting on forever since Marvel Legends started. Thank you Hasbro for making this one!
