Happy Birthday!
Batman turned 80 and Detective Comics released issue number 1000 this year marks another milestone for the detective created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Mezco kicked it off with Batman Sovereign Knight Onyx Edition. This is the modern day Batman inspired by the Rebirth series which later was branded under the DC Universe world.
Mezco’s Onyx Edition Batman Comes with 4 heads, unmasked, masked short ears, masked long ears, and masked with battle damage. Also included are 10 small batarangs, 1 medium Batarang, one grappling gun with 2 grapples, 5 sets of hands, one kryptonite knuckled fist, sonic gun, and my personal favorite the bat drone.
The suit bearing resemblance to the modern day suit also sports a rubber suit type feeling as well. Paying Homage to the Micheal Keaton Batman of the eighties? This could be possible since we will be seeing this figure in the future. The return of the yellow and black chest symbol is a much-needed change considering all the Batman figures we have to date in the One:12 series.
The verdict, although I am a huge advocate for the One:12 line I find it difficult to not state the obvious of there are way too many Batmen. I am sure if you asked fans (JayQ) they will say there can never be enough Batmans and I get the fact that it is one of DC’s more popular characters but we need to see a more diverse run of figures. Stay with the Batman Universe but give us more. We need some sidekicks, some more bad guys. My personal wants are Bane and Redhood. I would even settle for Nightwing or Robin.
I know I just said a mouthful and although I would ask for more than Batman, it is still a great among the Batmans released to date. This is one of three Sovereign Knight editions and my favorite of those three. So if you get a chance snag this one as he won’t hang around long like all the exclusives. You can never have enough One:12’s.
