Hail to the king baby!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters picks up 5 years after the previous Godzilla film. Godzilla roams the earth and the agency known as Monarch, monitor his movements. Other creatures start to emerge including a new alpha Ghidorah. As the battle rages on for dominance, the people of the earth must decide whose side they are on.

I grew up watching the reruns of the old Godzilla films and I loved them. Godzilla: King of the Monsters captures this feeling of the old film just wonderfully. Yes, technology has changed, but that old feeling is still there in this film.

I’m not going to tell you this is an Oscar-nominated movie but it is really fun. The plot is a little thin, but it moves at a great pace. It’s exciting and just action-packed, and how can you go wrong with giant monsters beating on each other?

The humans in this film are pretty much non-essential, but they help move the plot.

The highlights of this film are definitely the effects. The battle sequences are truly amazing. And the devastation, my God the devastation is truly epic! The effect people really hit this one out of the park. Spoiler alert: Yankees fans will be happy!

What I love about this film is the way Warner is trying to build this entire giant monster universe. There are several references to King Kong and with the next film Godzilla vs. Kong, it really sets it up nicely.

As cheezy and campy as this movie is, the visual and audio effects more than makeup for it. Do not wait for this to come home. I don’t care how good your home entertainment system is, THIS is a film that’s meant to be seen on the big screen. It is truly epic!

And remember to sit through the end credits.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS opens nationwide, Friday, May 31st.
