Hasbro gives us a new and improved Winter Soldier!
In case you aren’t familiar with the Winter Soldier, he was originally Captain America’s teenage sidekick, Bucky, during World War II. In the end days of WWII, Cap and Bucky were captured and put in a trap. They escaped and had to disarm a flying bomb. Cap couldn’t reach the bomb, but Bucky could, and the bomb exploded. The caused Cap getting frozen on ice. He thought his junior partner was dead.
What Cap didn’t know is the explosion didn’t destroy Bucky but did blow off his left arm. Bucky fell into the ocean as well, but he was found by a Russian submarine. The sailors recognized Bucky and turned him over to their government. The Russian government would brainwash Bucky, gave him a robotic arm, and made him the assassin known as the Winter Soldier. They would freeze Winter Soldier when he wasn’t being used, so he aged slower.
Eventually, Winter Soldier would go up again Cap, but Cap would manage to break the brainwashing. The Winter Soldier kept his new name and became one of the good guys, who would work in the shadow and not the public like Cap.
The last time Hasbro gave us a comic version of Winter Solider was in 2010 with 2 pack with Black Widow. Since then, we got movie versions of the character, which makes perfect sense. When Hasbro showed off the new Winter Soldier as part of the Black Widow movie wave, I knew I had to get him. So happy I did.
The sculpt is really impressive here. I was never a big fan of the long hair on the Winter Soldier, but it looks great here. Lots of detail in the design. Little things like a knife on his back, and a watch on his left wrist. This is why I love the designers a Hasbro so much. Attention to little detail is so important.
Winter Soldier has all the points of articulation you’d expect from a Marvel Legend. The range of motion isn’t hampered at all.
Winter Soldier comes with 2 accessories: a handgun and a rifle. Both weapons fit in either hand quite easily, and because of the range of motion, you can really pose the rifle with both hands holding it. There is one thing that did confuse me about the handgun. There is a holster on his hip, but there is already a gun molded in there. That seems kind of silly to me. I would have made it to hold his handgun. But I’m not going to complain about it.
For the Build-A-Figure piece, Winter Soldier comes with the Crimson Dynamo head.
Bottom line, even if you already have a Winter Soldier, this is definitely the one for your collection. Hasbro just did an amazing job on it.
