Gina Meyers is a private investigator. And a witch! From London and Vault Comics, it’s Shadow Service #2.

Years ago, as a child, Gina discovered magic. A bit too late, with her father already a raving mad thing, and her mother abandoning her. But it was instinct. And now, instinct might return to save her again, as she is being held prisoner, her magic pointed back at her at gunpoint. On the run, with Wraith-One and Hex on her trail.

Cavan Scott (Doctor Who, Star Wars Adventures: Tales From Vader’s Castle) gives us dark places, with magic and misshapen horrors. There’s a lot of concept here to play with, and Scott has fun exploring spies combined with evil spells.

Corin Howell (artist, Dark Red, Ghostbusters) and Triona Farrell (colourist, Black Widow, Future Foundation) keep things horrifying and dark. The movements are floating and fleeting. The fighting is ongoing. The moving from dark place to dark place keeps the story magnetic and its gravity is fun with a sprinkle of menace.

If you’re up for dark magic and spooky subterfuge, give this one a try!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
