From BOOM! Studios, Seven Secrets #3 is released this week.

The Order, for hundreds of years, has stored its secrets in seven briefcases. The Keepers and Holders are their guards. The newest member, Caspar, must now undergo Trials to prove his worthiness. The Trials are dangerous, of course, and Caspar must keep his wits and his head together or risk losing both!

Writer Tom Taylor (DCeased), artist Daniele Di Nicuolo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and colourist Walter Baiamonte weave this tale of secret orders, lost and found mothers, and seemingly unstoppable foes. Taylor’s writing enables a first-time reader, like me, to jump into issue 3 of this title and gain their bearings. No mean feat!

Di Nicuolo draws wonderful faces, features, and fights. The atmospheres are realistic but ‘comic book looking’, which is even better than the real thing, in my opinion. The expressions, the characters, costumes, gestures are all first-rate. Baiamonte gives good colour areas to us, not overly graduated, not hyper-loud. But the scenes are embued with colour drama, the colours have emotional context.

Good drama, strong story.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
