Things get more nuanced yet more gladiatorial in the second issue of this season’s Stone Star. This comic book title is a Comixology Original, available in digital format.

Writer Jim Zub (Skullkickers, Conan, Stranger Things: Dungeons and Dragons, etc) continues the tale of this entertainment world, where teams of aliens fight to the death.

This time around, Zub, with Max Dunbar on line art and Espen Grundetjern on colours (Marshall Dillon on letters), give us loads of arena fight action, and new moments of character revelation. A young thief named Dail has discovered a dark secret in the depths of Stone Star and has to decide where his destiny lies – staying hidden in the shadows or standing tall in the searing spotlight of the arena. Dunbar’s fight scenes and imaginative creatures are a sight for sore eyes. It’s wild stuff! The eye-popping twists and grappling maneuvers make for great visual action as the plot thickens.

The imagination is at full blast in this creator-driven series, and well worth a look!

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
