With Scout Comics’ imprint entitled “Scoot”, a new title emerges: Wild Bull & Chipper, issue one.
It’s a $2 comic from writer Richard Rivera and cocreator/artist Dwayne Biddix, colourist Liezl Buenaventura, and letterer Jaymes Reed.
Chipper is a guy who never ages, it seems. His two front teeth protrude, his glasses are round and he’s a small kinda man. Or man-boy. And his buddy Wild Bull is a balding, heavy set fellow.
It’s a story, it’s a parody and pastiche all in one. Chipper can give other people superpowers! Holy Salsa! And oops, looks like he might just create supervillains too! Whoops. And it seems Chipper is stuck at the ’12 year old appearance’ level, which is counter to Bull’s having continued to age in the 30 years since they were in school. Together with an 80-year-old Major Granny and a couple of twins with trendy haircuts, it’s like Brand Echhh, MAD Magazine, Crazy, Plop, and all the tropes and cliches of superhero books joined together.
Don’t expect too much serious drama here, but revel in the nods to the comic industry, comic fans, and enjoy the silly and sensational goings-on.
Rivera contributes loads of dialogue and conversations, Biddix shares his enthusiasm for costumes and physical antics, and the whole magilla is a bundle of amusing comic-related mayhem! All this for just 2 bucks!
