The Invincible Red Sonja returns with issue 7 of this title from Dynamite.

Red Sonja is playing chess with a large-breasted supernatural she-demon when we join her. In this tale co-written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner, Sonja suspects that she is a pawn of someone other than Scathach, the divine Celtic goddess in the Hyborian Age. You see, Scathach had previously granted Red Sonja plenty of battle power, as long as she agreed with a few important conditions. Anyway, Sonja is smelling a rat, thinking that something else is impersonating Scathach, so it’s sword and sorcery for sure!

“Seven” is a tale of survival from natural and unnatural foes, where artist Moritat draws a Red Sonja ripely unfastened into nudity, surrounded by strategically placed clumps of rock and water bubbles. She’s washed and wary and in plenty of trouble. Sonja’s no sooner warming her naked limbs by the comfy Red campfire in a brief repose when trouble rises up again. Something wicked is about to erupt!

It’s an imaginative romp, part ‘Sheena of the Jungle’ and part Howard mythology. It’s Palmiotti and Conner having a blast, with Moritat drawing the many splendoured faces and looks of Red Sonja in his finest line, as she charms and lays naked the thoughts of readers and villains alike.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
