The final chapter of the DCeased saga begins!
The survivors of Earth prepare for a final war against the undead gods of Apokolips, as the Anti-Life Equation continues to spread its influence across the universe. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman have to rally together all of the remaining heroes for a war, unlike anything that they have ever faced. Can the heroes succeed in restoring some of their allies?
One would think there wouldn’t be much story left to tell within the world of DCeased, but Tom Taylor appears to have one last story, and thankfully, much like the previous installments, he explores the world further. As the heroes of the current landscape adjust to their environment, rebuilding their world and curing it, new unforeseen threats enter the fray, along with other characters that are new to the series. If there is anything that Taylor manages to do best when writing standalone universe stories, it’s his ability to write interpersonal interactions between characters, and readers get to see that as we get a glimpse of how things have been for Jon, Damian, and the rest of the heroes. There are some touching moments and unexpected reunions that are well handled, heartbreaking, and earned.
Trevor Hairsine returns to the world of DCeased, providing beautiful artwork that remind readers why this series of books was a success to begin with aside from Taylor’s writing. Whether it’s the gesture work, character acting, or stylistic linework, it all shines. Hairsine’s art shines even brighter with Andy Lanning’s linework, and Rain Beredo’s colors, rendering it to match the cinematic tone of Taylor’s writing and Saida Temofonte’s lettering. This is definitely a title worth picking up that shows just as much promise as the previous series had accomplished previously. If you’re looking for a DC book with stakes and ramifications, unencumbered by the usual fare that’s in superhero books, this is one to pick up.
