As the heroes of earth prepare to stave off the threat of Deathstroke and the dark army, the surviving members of the Justice League try to escape from Piriah’s reality prisons. Can the heroes stave off the dark army? Can the surviving members of the League escape their realities before it’s too late?

I think of all the issues of Dark Crisis thus far, this current issue along with the previous issue is where the book really finds its footing. With all the setup that had to be established, it was nice to finally see everything get kicked into high gear with the heroes of Earth Zero. It’s enjoyable to see the heroes being overwhelmed by Pariah and Deathstroke’s forces as their plan comes to fruition and seeing the various characters come into their own, notably, the Titans as the premier team of the DCU is great to see.

If there is any complaint that I’ve had with these events it’s that some pivotal moments are left to tie-ins to establish which is frustrating because what is crucial in a tie-in could’ve helped to fill the gap in the main book instead of being left out as a tie-in. Beyond that, this issue is preferably the best one thus far that drives home what Williamson intended, making this event a celebration of the legacy characters, and putting them center stage as they always should have been.

Daniel Sampere handles the art as he did the previous issues, and this issue really allows him to shine. There’s a sense of enthusiasm in regards to the number of characters that grace the pages during the battles between the dark army, and all of the heroes that have yet to be infected. Sampere’s illustrated pages shine bright in this issue, and coupled with Alejandro Sanchez’s colors, along with Tom Napolitano’s lettering, makes this the best issue yet. I recommend adding this to your pull list for new comic book day.
