DC Horror Presents Sgt Rock VS The Army Of The Dead #2 is a rock’em sock’em comic with plenty of grit.

From the Gary Frank and Brad Anderson front cover showing a grimacing Sgt Rock under heavy fire, to the innards of the book, it’s fun and frightening.

Sgt. Rock and Easy Company are behind the eight ball here, behind the lines, and down on their luck. They are armed to the teeth and gritting them against the soulless eye-bulging zombies.

Bruce Campbell’s razor-sharp script and Eduardo Risso’s (simplified and gorgeous colour by Kristian Rossi, elegant and gutteral lettering by Rob Leigh) streamlined, minimal art style mesh together like treads of a tank. It’s inevitable, it’s noisy, almost wordless, and filled with blood and guts. It’s brightly explosive and highly corrosive, and fun as a comic gets in 2022. It’s the best of the creepy dark shapes and the cartoonishy exaggerated bodies with ghoulish smiles and blasting caps.

You’ll grin like the Joker at this one, all the while poring the pages, sweating, swearing and having a great fun gurgling read.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
