With a broken blade, and free from the curse that bound her to the chainmail, Red Sonja, Lanzlot, and the Green Knight ban together to face off against Mordread’s army of the dead. Having found Merlin at last, will Merlin aid Red Sonja and her allies or will he allow death to consume them?

Dan Abnett writes a perfectly balanced issue that is action-packed from beginning to end. Abnett continues to keep the plot, story, and dialogue consistent in tone as Red Sonja and her allies brave the waves of enemies that aim to kill them. For a medieval action comic, Abnett naturally places humor into the story, allowing for citations to have gravity and levity when needed. The interactions and exchanges between Red Sonja, Lanzlot, and The Green Knight make the book all the more fun and leaves the reader the desire to see more stuff down the line with this particular trio.

Luca Colandrea illustrates this book with well-constructed layouts that allow for the action between the panels to flow seamlessly. Coupled with Ellie Wright’s colors, embellishing Colandrea’s art with power alongside Jeff Eckleberry’s well-placed lettering, this book is able to deliver all the action that one would expect of a solid Red Sonja series. This is one of Dynamite’s standout books and continues to provide the kind of action and fun that should always come with reading sword and sorcery comics. Add this to your pull list for new comic book day.
