All of the battles have led to this moment as Red Sonja, past and present faces off against the very being that led her to her path as the scarlet warrior. Will she fight against fate, or succumb to it?
This issue was an interesting analysis on Red Sonja’s storied origins or the various origins she’s had under different publishers over the years. I appreciate that Zub took up the task to acknowledge the different iterations of Red Sonja to showcase that no matter the iterations, she is always gonna be a consistent force of fury. The story is pretty tight and Zub does some interesting things with Red Sonja that in some ways is akin to what Jason Aaron did with Thor. Seeing Red Sonja fight the tides of fate and working with an iteration of herself made it an enjoyable read. There’s definitely some interesting ideas that Zub sets up that hopefully will be explored down the road should there be an opportunity for it.
Adrien Garcia handles the art duties detailing Red Sonja’s battle with Tendra with detailed layouts and panels. The battles are drawn dynamically, and beautifully colored by Segala and Pozza. Taylor Esposito is on lettering duty, placing and fitting narration and various voices where they need to be in unison with the art. It’s a fun sword and sorcery comic that reflects on Red Sonja’s varied history, and a fitting conclusion to this series. If you’re a fan of Red Sonja, or looking for a Red Sonja series to check out, I recommend checking this series out.
