It’s a race against time as Dr. Diyu has stolen the Spirit of Corruption for Danny Ketch in order to save her brother’s soul in hell. Due to the separation from the Spirit of Corruption, Danny Ketch is dying and the only one who can save him is Talia and Johnny Blaze, the Ghost Rider! Can Johnny retrieve the Spirit of Corruption back to Danny in time? Will Dr. Diyu finds her brother’s soul before Hell consumes her? What awaits Johnny in hell?
Benjamin Percy does a solid job writing this issue as it flows page to page without a dull moment. Each page is filled with tension as Johnny is losing his mind to save his brother Danny from dying. This issue runs in parallel as Dr. Diyu has weaponized Danny’s Spirit of Corruption to save her brother from Hell, Meanwhile, Johnny is trying to save Danny, while Talia is hoping to save Johnny in the process. Each of these plot threads are woven together seamlessly by Percy and keeps one’s attention as the story is accelerating in a well-paced fashion that keeps readers invested in Johnny’s race against time, journeying through hell to save Danny.
Cory Smith illustrates the book, stylistically fitting the kind of horror tone that a Ghost Rider book should have. It’s fun seeing Johnny transform into the Ghost Rider in a gory fashion as depicted by Smith, whose art in accompaniment with Oren Junior’s inks Travis Lanham’s lettering, and Bryan Valenza’s colors, seals the deal as the best kind of supernatural marvel book that harkens back to classic marvel knights era books of its day. This is a solid issue of this Percy-written series, and if you’re looking for a good Ghost Rider series that scratches that Marvel Knights itch, then it’s worth adding to your pull list for new comic book day.
