In BOOM! Studios’ The Seasons Have Teeth #3, we’ve moved along to Autumn. And it makes good summer reading.

Because Professor Simon Rankle suspects that the Autumn Season creature may be hibernating, he visits the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone to find him. It’s where the 1986 Russian nuclear accident took place. A no man’s land, full of residual nastiness. It’s a haunted place, and well described by writer Dan Watters.

Dan Watters blends horror, guilt, and just plain ol’ creepiness in the third chapter of this ‘what if seasons were physical things, and they were monsters?’ saga. Artist Sebastian Cabrol (colours by Dan Jackson, letters by Nate Piekos) keeps it claustrophobic, enclosed, enslaved. The trees are orange, the surviving structures are shabby, and it’s a quiet twilight.

Lots of mood, glimpses of the nastiness embodied in the Exclusion Zone, plenty of suspense.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
