I am the writer that critiques cartoons…I am the critic that krackles the comics…I am no one of any importance…but I do know a FUN comic book story when I see one. That is just what BOOM Studios is delivering with their current Darkwing Duck series by Amand Deibert and Carlo Lauro. The story is in the middle of an arch about the Justice Ducks. You don’t remember the Justice Ducks? Well, let this 90s kid refresh your memory. The Justice Ducks are a team of superhero ducks that originated in the animated television series “Darkwing Duck,” which was part of Disney’s Afternoon programming block in the early 1990s. The team is a parody and homage to superhero teams like the Justice League from DC Comics. In this issue alone we get to see the Robocop Rip-off (and I mean that in the most loving way) Gizmoduck, the mistress of the dark arts Morgana Macawber, the ever-argumentative Neptunia, and even Stegmutt! The team is trying to find the loveable Launchpad McQuack.

Carlo Lauro is a remarkable comic book artist whose work seamlessly blends the boundaries of fantasy and reality. With a distinctive style characterized by intricate details and a dynamic sense of motion, Lauro’s art captivates audiences and transports them into the vivid worlds he creates. His mastery of panel layout and composition adds depth and excitement to each page, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the narrative. Lauro’s use of color is particularly striking, as he employs a rich palette to convey mood and emotion with precision. Whether he’s illustrating epic superhero battles or intimate character moments, Carlo Lauro’s art is a testament to his exceptional talent and his ability to elevate storytelling through his visual storytelling prowess. He makes this book FEEL like a cartoon on the screen.

This fun little team-up of misfits gets a solid 7 out of 10 Krackles!
