Renowned toy collector Jeff Jacob is auctioning off his massive collection, and the first part of it is up for bidding at Hakes.com! With over 400 figures and vehicles to choose from in this first round – some of them the highest graded examples of that figure – the collection is filled with wall-to-wall grail pieces. Check out some of the iconic items leading the bidding in the current auction.
While the auction is overwhelmingly populated with Star Wars items, including mail-away sets, foreign packaging and even a complete set of Power of the Force coins, the standout is inarguably this carded Obi-Wan Kenobi with double-telescoping lightsaber. One of only two graded examples in existence, this is the highest graded example of the figure available, and is leading all bidding. Current bid: $50,000
Hake’s – TRANSFORMERS (1984) SERIES 1 – MEGATRON AFA 80 NM.
Sure, there’s an Optimus Prime in the auction, too, but everyone wants a Megatron, probably due to his status as the Transformer least likely ever to be re-issued in his original form. The robot-turned-Walther P-38 pistol looks great in his box, and scored an 80 grade, making it one of the highest-graded examples of the Decepticon leader in existence. Current bid: $15,400
The early bird gets the worm, but the early bird Star Wars fans in 1977 got a whole lot more than that! In one of the first pre-orders, kids got empty boxes for Christmas, and sent away for four figures that arrived the following year, including a double-telescoping Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and R2-D2. 100% worth the wait, and currently worth its weight in gold. Current bid: $16,500
Like Star Wars, the G.I. Joe toy universe expanded to hundreds of characters, mail-aways, exclusive playsets and massive vehicles, and this auction certainly covers a lot of that. But one of the highest valued Joe items in the auction is the original Snake Eyes, with no paint applications, straight arms (missing the mid-bicep joint he would gain later) and a lonely machine gun, on a cardback that only advertises nine figures, as well as a mysterious mail-away character named “Cobra Commander.” Sometimes the simple things are the best. Current bid: $3,556
Hake’s – STAR WARS (1979) – BOBA FETT 21 BACK-B AFA 85 NM+.
Finding a vintage Boba Fett figure on card is a challenge. Finding one with an unpunched hole is difficult. Finding one that is graded 85 is nigh-impossible. This graded Fett is as good as it gets. Current bid: $8,053
This figure of Lion-O from the ThunderCats has it all – a Battle-Matic Action sword, light-up eyes, a little Snarf figurine, and best of all, orange hair! The orange hair version is much more rare than the red hair version, which makes this 80-graded example (one of five in existence at that high grade) such a prize. Current bid: $2,972
Hake’s – KENNER ALIEN (1979) – ALIEN 18-INCH ACTION FIGURE AFA UNCIRCULATED U85 NM+.
In space, no one can hear parents complain! This 1979 release of the 18-inch Alien action figure was not at the top of most kids’ wish lists (the movie was rated R), but Kenner made one heck of a collectible, with a removable skull dome and glow-in-the-dark brains! Finding a decent copy of the iconic box is difficult, but this uncirculated figure scored an 85 grade. Current Bid: $3,025
