Invincible returns for a fourth season, and this time it’s war — the Viltrumite War, to be exact.

Previously in season three of Invincible, we saw Mark Grayson / Invincible (Steven Yeun) pushed further by the responsibility of protecting Earth while dealing with the legacy of his father, Nolan Grayson / Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). His relationship with Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) deteriorated as Mark became increasingly uncomfortable with the Global Defense Agency’s willingness to use morally questionable tactics. That tension culminated in a confrontation where Mark cut ties with Cecil and warned that he would kill him if Cecil crossed certain lines again.
Meanwhile, Debbie Grayson (Sandra Oh) tried to rebuild her life while raising Mark’s rapidly aging half-brother Oliver Grayson (Christian Convery), whose developing Viltrumite powers worried Mark as he began training him. At the same time, Mark’s relationship with Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs) deepened.
Mark also faced Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown), whose actions unleashed multiple versions of Invincible from across the multiverse. The resulting chaos caused widespread destruction and left many people on Earth fearful of Mark, questioning whether they could truly trust him.
By the end of the season, with his reputation shaken and threats still looming both on Earth and beyond, Mark was left facing an uncertain future and the growing realization that even greater challenges were still to come.
As season four opens, the world is still afraid of Mark because of what Levy unleashed. That fear weighs heavily on him. After all, it’s hard to save people when they’re scared of you.
Mark and Eve’s relationship continues to grow stronger as they try to navigate the chaos around them. Meanwhile, Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) and Nolan convince the Coalition of Planets to confront the Viltrumite Empire, setting the road to war in motion. Nolan also has a plan that might help even the odds.
As always, season four of Invincible delivers the kind of high-stakes storytelling fans have come to expect. The animated series still follows the comic closely, although it does feel like certain story elements are moving a bit faster than they did on the page. That said, casual viewers likely won’t even notice the difference.
We also get to see Oliver — now known as Kid Omni-Man — begin hitting puberty, which, due to his accelerated aging, creates some interesting new developments.
Several new characters are introduced this season. The villainous Dinosaurus, along with his hapless human form, is voiced by Matthew Rhys. Universa is voiced by Danai Gurira, whom fans will recognize as Okoye from Black Panther. Jonathan Banks, of Breaking Bad fame, voices the new leader of the Guardians of the Globe, The Brit. Djimon Hounsou voices Allen and Nolan’s ally in the war, Space Racer. Lee Pace joins the cast as the villainous leader of the Viltrumites, Grand Regent Thragg. And finally, Tech Jacket is introduced. Unlike the comics, Tech Jacket has been reimagined as a young woman named Zoe, voiced by Zoey Deutch.
One small disappointment this season is that Zachary Quinto is no longer voicing Robot. It may simply be a scheduling conflict, but Quinto’s voice really fit the character well. Robot is now voiced by Ross Marquand, who already provides the voice for Rex.
Season four still has all the blood and guts fans have come to expect from Invincible. The series remains as brutal and gory as ever. But there are emotional moments as well. There is a good balance, and it moves the story along at a great pace.
The writing also remains extremely strong. One of the show’s greatest strengths continues to be how faithfully it captures the tone and spirit of the original comic series.
Overall, season four is shaping up to be another excellent chapter in the Invincible saga. If the opening episodes are any indication, the Viltrumite War may become one of the most intense storylines the series has tackled so far. I can’t wait to see where things go when the inevitable fifth season arrives.
The first three episodes of the fourth season of Invincible premiere on March 13, 2026, followed by weekly episode rollouts exclusively on Prime Video.
